Carol, Julie, and Fixit

Carol Bowman and her daughter Julie Bowman Williams have a passion for viewing and expressing their interpretation of the world around them.  Oils, water colors, and most recently pastels have been the mediums of choice in this lifelong journey.

Carol is a graduate of Hillsdale College, where she minored in Art.  She has painted watercolors for the past 30+ years, with many awards and accolades to her credit.  She is renowned for painting the world around her in an everyday sense, making plain and often ignored objects and themes  shine in an artistic  light.  Her paintings typically  tell a story and chronicle the Northern Michigan area in which she resides.  She and her husband, Pete, are avid sailors and have been regulars in summers on the waters of the North Channel since their honeymoon in 1955.

Julie has attended Sienna Heights and Mississippi State University studying fine art and commercial art.  She has been painting at her mother’s knee since she was old enough not to eat the paint!  Her works have been in numerous juried art shows, garnering awards.   She loves Northern Michigan and paints it’s scenes from all angles.

Carol and Julie can be found plopped down on the side of the road painting on any given warm day, or stopping traffic while they take pictures of Scilla blooming in the front yard of a Victorian in a scenic  harbor or inland town of this prolific  west coast of northern Michigan.
